This species is highly variable, with summer rosettes featuring smooth, rigid, and succulent leaves that can range in color from bright yellow-green to deep maroon. The leaves are covered in glandular hairs that secrete a sticky substance to trap and digest small insects, providing the plant with much-needed nutrients.
