Preparation:

Rinse and Soak the Moss:

    • Rinse: Thoroughly rinse the collected moss under clean, lukewarm water to remove dirt and loose debris.
    • Soak: Place the moss in a bowl of clean water for a few minutes. This can help dislodge any visible hitch-hiker.

Apply a Natural Insecticide Spray (optional):

*I usually omit this step to promote the natural growth of beneficial insects native to the wild, which enhances my existing ecosystem. However, if you intend to use this as a top-dressing or for display and want to eliminate any unwanted hitchhikers, please follow the instructions below...*

    • Insecticidal Soap: Mix a few drops of liquid dish soap (like original Dawn) with water to create an insecticidal soap solution, which is safe and can kill insects by drying out their exoskeletons.
    • Neem Oil: Combine cold-pressed neem oil with water and a bit of dish soap (without degreasers or fragrances) to create a spray that works well on soft-bodied insects by disrupting their hormones and feeding.

Manual Removal (optional)

    • For more prominent pests use a chopsticks or tweezers to pick out visible insects

    • Perfect for terrarium and various growing environment
    • To keep forest moss alive, provide it with constant, high humidity and consistently moist soil through regular misting with filtered or rainwater, and place it in bright, indirect light, such as from a fluorescent lamp or a shaded window.
