Spinosad is a naturally occurring insecticide that is great for eliminating thrips, spider mites and a wide range of beetles, worms and caterpillars. We have found Spinosad to be incredibly effective at eliminating thrips often eliminating them in just 1 application. While not a systemic, research has shown that Spinosad remains effective for several weeks based on exposure to sunlight.

Spinosad is derived from a bacteria that was discovered at a rum factory in the Virgin Islands! It affects the nervous system of insects leading to paralysis and death in 1-2 days. As such, Spinosad is OMRI organic certified and is safe for humans and pets. Although, as with all insecticides, caution should be used when applying. Avoid contact with skin and eyes.

Mix 1 tablespoon of Spinosad per 1 liter of water. If kept out of direct sunlight, mixed Spinosad will remain effective for approximately 1 year. We have personally used 2-3 year old solution to good effect. As long as the product is stored well it seems to remain effective.
