Sarracenia rubra subspecies alabamensis is a federally endangered subspecies endemic to central Alabama’s sandy, acidic sandhill seeps and bogs — a habitat more inland and sandier than that of most other rubra subspecies. It’s instantly recognizable due to its broad lids with wavy (undulating) margins, which give it a sculptural, almost architectural appearance. Pitchers emerge green with subtle bronze flushing, lightly veined, and emit a delicate sweet scent to attract prey.
Our clone exemplifies these traits with particularily large lids and extremely wavy margins. As an officially listed endangered subspecies, it offers enthusiasts the rare opportunity to cultivate a plant of real conservation value — it offers both botanical significance and an opportunity to support ex-situ conservation through cultivation.
